Following in the footsteps of the eVito, the eSprinter is the next Mercedes-Benz van to be equipped with a battery-electric drive system. Diverse customisation options make it a real alternative for use in urban areas.    

Familiar characteristics remain unchanged.

2019 is the year of the first Sprinter to be equipped with a battery-electric drive system. It marks the next step in the big plan of holistically electrifying commercially-used Mercedes-Benz van models. Initially, the vehicle will be available as a Panel Van with high roof and a permissible gross weight of 3500 kilogrammes. Otherwise, though, much of the vehicle's familiar characteristics remain unchanged. Just like its counterpart with a combustion engine, it offers a maximum load volume of 10.5 cubic metres. Whether equipped as a mobile workshop or a spacious delivery van, the eSprinter can be used with great versatility and integrated problem-free into daily operations.

Choice between range and payload.

A major aspect when it comes to opting for a vehicle with a battery-electric drive is weighing up the range and payload requirements: more range means less payload and less range means more payload. Users can therefore choose from two different options. With a battery capacity of 55 kWh, the eSprinter offers a total range of around 150 kilometres*. The maximum payload is then as much as 900 kilogrammes. Whereas a battery capacity of 44 kWh achieves a range of up to 115 kilometres*. However, the maximum payload is roughly 140 kilogrammes greater at approximately 1040 kilogrammes.

Even greater customisation options.

The power of the eSprinter is suited to its intended purpose. Just like on the entry-level diesel variant of the vehicle, the electric drive delivers 85 kW; it offers as much as 300 Newton metres of torque. In line with this, it is recommended that the top speed be adjusted to suit the respective field of operation, with restrictions of 80, 100 or 120 km/h able to be configured. Even the highly important energy recuperation can be set up flexibly. Different modes regulate the storage of the energy recovered during braking. Using the shift paddles on the steering wheel, an optimal setting can be selected.

The eDrive@VANs strategy.

The eSprinter is an integral part of the eDrive@VANs strategy. Key points of this include: advice on selecting a vehicle, assistance with the new tools and the evaluation of total operating costs. A decisive aspect for potential customers of the van can also be an analysis of the organisational and technical outlay at a particular location. Accordingly, conditions should be created which allow commercial fleets to conserve resources and to remain economically competitive.

Emission-free mobility for long distances: the Concept Sprinter F-CELL.

The Concept Sprinter F-CELL equipped by way of example as a partially integrated camper van demonstrates the entire breadth of advantages which a fuel cell offers – from a high vehicle range to locally emission-free mobility.  
1. The Concept Sprinter F-CELL is suitable for longer courier routes or a company which carries out inter-city transport.  
2. It combines fuel-cell and battery-electric technologies into a plug-in hybrid.  
3. It achieves a power of around 147 kW and torque of 350 Newton metres.  
4. Three tanks in the van's underfloor store a total of 4.5 kilogrammes of hydrogen.  
5. Accordingly, a range of around 300 kilometres can be handled with ease.  

The same as with a diesel engine?
