The vastness of South Africa; scraps of clouds pass across the sky; not a soul in sight for miles at a time. When the undertaker Zac Letsoalo gets a call, he leaves pulsating Johannesburg behind him and travels out to villages where time still moves at a different pace. His Vito has been accompanying him along deserted highways and along sandy tracks for over 1,000,000 km now. "I've been doing the job for nearly 15 years, and yes – at first it did feel strange to be driving along for hours with such unusual "cargo" on board. But you get used to it. These days I know how to make the most of the silence on these trips," he says with a smile, before driving off in his Vito.
