Come to a standstill faster

Featuring ABS at standard, the Atego is available with either disc brakes all round or disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear – depending on vehicle model – for the shortest possible stopping distance. This is boosted by a dual-circuit pneumatic brake system operating at a constant 10 bar. The brakes respond more quickly, leaving more time for the actual braking process, which in turn can enhance safety on the road. Even after the brakes are used repeatedly in quick succession, there is no fade or delayed response. An engine brake and constant throttle are available as standard for vehicles weighing 9.5 t and above or as an option for other models.

Internally ventilated disc brakes make the new Atego even safer: Thanks to improved emergency running characteristics and much greater robustness.

The Telligent® brake system is an even faster operator. Available as option, it can significantly shorten the stopping distance. Since brake commands are sent as electronic signals, full braking power is available almost immediately. The Brake Assist system can identify a potentially critical situation based on brake pedal depression speed, after which it can react immediately by applying maximum braking force.

The integrated brake wear equalisation function distributes the braking force to each wheel to prevent uneven brake wear. This also makes economic sense since the brake pads are all changed at the same time resulting in less downtime.

The integrated hill-holder – part of the optional Telligent® brake system – can prevent the new Atego from rolling backwards or forwards unintentionally. This helps to prevent expensive and infuriating damage to the body panels or the vehicle load. The Telligent® brake system makes pulling away easier as the optional ASR prevents wheel spin.
