Mercedes-Benz is also implementing a broad range of environmentally compatible measures in the service sector. The water circuit in many of our vehicle wash facilities, for example, is designed to significantly reduce fresh-water consumption.
Mercedes-Benz has reconditioning engines since 1949. To date almost half a million Mercedes-Benz genuine reconditioned engines have left the plant in Mannheim. The reconditioned engines are subjected to the same tests a new engines. They comply with the same quality standards with regard to fuel consumption, performance and exhaust standards. After the final stage of the reconditioning process (painting), the only difference between the reconditioned engine and the production engine is the model plate. This is why we offer the same international warranty conditions. And the customer benefits from a cost saving of up to 40% compared with a new assembly.
Ecologically compatible repair methods are another way to protect the environment and save money. For example, dents caused by minor bodywork damage are carefully pressed out. The advantage is that the cost is often only around a tenth of the cost of conventional repair. It also achieves a valuable saving in raw materials.
When it comes to paintwork damage, Mercedes-Benz focuses on reducing the use of solvent-based paints. It uses environmentally compatible water-based paints and clear coats with improved scratch resistance. The latter has an organic solvent proportion of around 40%. The remainder comprises inorganic silicon-oxygen components. These nano compounds feature greater cohesion and enhanced scratch resistance.
Incidentally, dispensing with paints and solvents not only ensures reduced environmental impact but is also more beneficial to health.
