E-Class driving pleasure begins in the E 200 KOMPRESSOR. The supercharger technology increases the pressure in the intake system, thus improving the volumetric efficiency of the cylinders, which in turn boosts output, particularly at low revs. The result is 184 hp, which propels the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. The peak torque is 250 Nm.
Yet the engine is quite restrained as far as noise is concerned. Frugal consumption and emissions which are within the EU4 limits make the 4-cylinder engine version of the E-Class an economical and environmentally friendly car too.
(E 200 KOMPRESSOR: fuel consumption combined: 8.9–9.4 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 212–224 g/km)[1]

The E 230, E 280 and E 350 models are specified with a V6 drive unit. The "secret" of the three models lies in their special technology package. By way of example, all four camshafts benefit from variable valve timing across the entire engine speed range, thus ensuring high torque even at bottom-end revs. At the same time fuel consumption is reduced thanks to optimised combustion, while a balancer shaft ensures smoother running.
Thanks to their variable intake and exhaust camshaft adjustment, sophisticated mixture-formation system and intake manifolds, the 6-cylinder petrol engines of the E 230, E 280 and E 350 set new standards in terms of outstanding comfort and power coupled with low fuel consumption.
(E 230: fuel consumption: 9.6–9.9 l/100 km, CO2 emissions: 229–237 g/km; E 280: consumption combined: 9.6–10.0 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 229–239 g/km; E 350: fuel consumption combined: 9.9–10.4 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 236–248 g/km)[1]

The top-of-the-range E-Class models are driven by powerful V8 engines. The 8-cylinder petrol engine at the heart of the E 500 produces an extremely assured driving feel. Whatever the situation on the road, the high torque means that there is always plenty of power in reserve. Then there is the sound of harnessed power that is unique to eight-cylinder engines.
The key data for the E 500 – 5.5-litre displacement, an output of 388 hp and a peak torque of 530 Nm – say it all: a feeling of supreme assuredness prevails in every driving situation. The high-geared rear axle reduces the engine speed and, consequently, the noise level.
An 8-cylinder petrol engine also drives the most powerful E-Class Estate: the E 63 AMG. The AMG V8 powerplant delivers scintillating, sports car-like performance boasting an output of 514 hp, which makes the E 63 AMG Estate a unique symbiosis of dynamics and practicality.
(E 500: fuel consumption combined: 11.8 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 280 g/km, E 63 AMG: fuel consumption combined: 14.5 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 345 g/km)[1]
